USDT on TRC20 vs ERC20: which one should you send?
The same dollar token on two networks. What changes between USDT TRC20 and ERC20: network cost, speed, where each is accepted and how to avoid losing funds.
USDT is one token issued on many blockchains. TRC20 (Tron) and ERC20 (Ethereum) are the two you meet most. The balance looks the same, but the network decides the cost, the speed and whether a deposit arrives at all.
Network cost
- TRC20: usually low and fairly stable, paid in TRX or energy.
- ERC20: depends on Ethereum traffic; cheap when the network is quiet, much higher when it is busy.

Speed
Both confirm within minutes. Tron is usually faster for a plain transfer; Ethereum has more DEX pools, which can mean a shorter route for some tokens.
Where each is accepted
Most exchanges accept both, but not all. Before you choose a destination, open the deposit page of the place you will send to and match the network exactly. See which token to swap to before cashing out.
The one rule
An ERC20 address and a TRC20 address look different (0x… and T…). If the address format does not match the network, stop and check.
